Creativity

What happens when you meet materials?  So many of us are afraid to create.

I remember when I was a kid and in school and I would try to draw. The teacher oftentimes would criticize what I had put on the paper. After a while I believed I could not draw so why should I try. The blocks went up and I had this in my head that I did not have a creative bone in my body. When I retired, I was lost, and I did not know who I was outside of having a career in education.  As I explored different things that would fill me up, I believe creativity found me and quite frankly saved me.

Can you relate to this?

Over time my creativity pursuits brought me peace. I do believe that because I was self-taught, I was able to tear down the walls from my childhood faster and get into a creative flow.  I can usually go into a creative mode without any expectations and just get curious and experiment. At the end of the day, like one of my friends says, "It's just paper and paint." That is the truth. Some of my best art is when I just grab what is close at hand and get messy with paint and paper.

I invite you to try because there is no doubt in my mind that we are all creative!
